The Institute for Regional and Migration Research (IRM) is an independent institute for social research. The activities of the institute focus on the geographical unit, “region.” Regional processes of development will be analyzed in their complexity, especially regarding their impact on manners and conditions of regional mobility. The second main research topic is migration research which focuses on the reasons, conditions, and consequences of migration processes. Both fields of research relate to each other and will be used to analyze migration processes and their relevance to regional development.
